Here is the gameplan:
â¨â¨â¨Cleanse â Exfoliate â Hydrate â Treat â Protect + Hair & Makeup â¨â¨â¨
Step 1: Start with a fresh canvas
How you wash your face dictates the rest of your skincare routine.
Active cleansers: These do something to your skin.
Kate Somerville EradiKate 3% Sulfur Cleanser: Pink, creamy, and designed for redness, clogged pores, and oily skin. Use 2â3x per week. Bonus: Apply like a mask for a few minutes on congested areas before rinsing off.
Sofie Pavitt Benzoyl Peroxide Mask (used as a cleanser): Great for face/chest/back acne. Keep in the shower (BPO stains towels!). Use 2â3x per week max.
Gentle cleanser: Removes makeup, grime, and SPF.
Dr. Idriss Soft Wash: Can be used on dry skin, safe for your eyes. Apply, massage with a washcloth, rinse off. Ideal for daily use.
Step 2: Exfoliate
After cleansing, exfoliants help clear dead skin and prep for treatment products.
Paula's Choice 2% BHA Toner: The classic. Ideal for oily/acne-prone skin. Not for dry/sensitive types.
Sofie Pavitt Mandelic Clearing Serum: AHA for sensitive skin. Larger molecule = gentler exfoliation. Use up to 4â5x/week.
Dr. Idriss Flash Mask: 15% glycolic acid + lactic + tranexamic. Deep exfoliation, boosts collagen, evens out tone.
Shani Darden Lactic Acid Serum (9%): Great for body use tooâthink bumpy arms!
Dr. Dennis Gross Alpha Beta Peel Pads: Pricey, but perfect for travel. Donât overuse due to waste.
Dr. Idriss Lip Peel: Technically for lips, but gentle enough for under eyes. Contains gluconolactone + mandelic acid.
Step 3: Hydrate & Prep
Essences, toners, and mists get your skin prepped and juicy for serums.
SK-II Facial Treatment Essence: Iconic. Expensive, but deeply hydratingâespecially in dry climates.
Dr. Jart+ Ceramidin Toner: Thicker, more affordable, packed with ceramides and panthenol.
Step 4: Serums That Slay
These are your high-concentration heroes.
Brightening:
Dr. Idriss Hyper Serum: Kojic acid, niacinamide, licorice root. Works on red acne marks + brown discoloration.
